Sustainability
Our Sustainability Commitment
Honouring the Source. Protecting the Future.
Oud comes from nature - from the Agarwood tree, one of the most precious and threatened resources on earth. As a brand born at the source, we believe we have a profound responsibility to protect that source for generations to come. Sustainability is not a marketing claim for us. It is a duty.
Ethical Oud Sourcing
The demand for agarwood has placed enormous pressure on wild Aquilaria trees across Southeast Asia. Unsustainable harvesting has pushed some species to the brink. We refuse to be part of that destruction.
Our approach to oud sourcing is built on three principles:
- Sustainable plantations - We prioritise agarwood from cultivated plantations where trees are grown specifically for sustainable resin production, not clear-felled from wild forests.
- Traceable supply chains - Every batch of oud we purchase can be traced back to its source, ensuring transparency and accountability at every stage.
- CITES compliance - All our agarwood is sourced in full compliance with CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regulations.
Sustainable Agarwood
We are actively investing in the future of Agarwood. Sustainable plantation-grown Aquilaria trees produce high-quality resin while allowing forests to regenerate. By choosing plantation-sourced oud, we support:
- The preservation of wild agarwood populations
- Rural farming communities that cultivate Aquilaria sustainably
- Research into improved resin-induction techniques that don't harm trees
- The long-term viability of the oud industry itself
"If we love oud, we must protect the trees that give it to us. There is no heritage without stewardship."
Kuwait Factory Practices
Our factory in Kuwait City operates with care for both people and environment:
- Fair employment - Our craftsmen and factory staff are employed permanently with fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for their expertise.
- Small-batch production - We produce in controlled batches to minimise waste and ensure quality, rather than mass-producing surplus that ends up discarded.
- Efficient distillation - Our distillation processes are optimised to extract maximum oil from each batch of agarwood, reducing raw material waste.
- Recycled water systems - Where possible, we recapture and reuse water in our production processes.
Packaging Commitment
Luxury does not have to mean waste. Our packaging is designed to be premium yet responsible:
- Recyclable boxes - Our rigid gift boxes and product cartons are made from recyclable card stock.
- FSC-certified materials - Paper products are sourced from FSC- certified suppliers wherever possible.
- Minimal plastic - We are actively reducing plastic in our packaging, replacing it with paper, card, and glass alternatives.
- Reusable burners - Our brass-look burners and ceramic holders are designed to last a lifetime, not be thrown away.
- Refill-first design - Our product range encourages refills rather than repurchasing, reducing packaging waste over time.
Our Ongoing Journey
We do not claim to be perfect. Sustainability is a journey, not a destination, and we are committed to continuous improvement. Our goals for the coming years include:
- 100% plantation-sourced agarwood across all product lines
- Elimination of single-use plastics from all packaging
- Carbon-offset shipping for all international orders
- A take-back programme for empty bottles and burners
- Partnerships with agarwood reforestation initiatives
